Faithful Man By Lee Fields.

Since the late sixties Lee Fields has amassed a prolific catalog and has played and toured with such legends as Kool and the Gang, Sammy Gordon and the Hip-Huggers, O.V Wright, and many more. With a career spanning 43 years, it s mind-blowing that the music he s making today with Brooklyn s Truth & Soul Records is the best of his career. While drawing comparisons to The Moments, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, and of course James Brown, Faithful Man is able to create a space of it s own due to the group s desire to interpret and further the formulas of good soul music rather then imitate them. Chalk that up to Truth & Soul producers and co-owners Jeff Silverman and Leon Michels. The older Fields becomes, the closer he gets to perfecting the sound of soul said DJ Oliver Wang about Fields in an NPR feature. Faithful Man is the next step towards perfection. A step that will find Lee Fields & The Expressions finally being bestowed the contemporary soul music crown.

Beard, Wives, Denim By Pond.

Pond were formed in Perth, Western Australia in 2008 with members Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson and Joseph Ryan. The original idea of Pond was to be able to get anyone they wanted to play whatever they wanted in a collaborative musical project. Their first album was released soon after in 2009, titled 'Psychedelic Mango' which contained many psychedelic and pop elements. Their second album, 'Corridors of Blissterday' was completed live with an 8 piece band in 5 days, and also released in 2009. This led to the creation of their 2010 album 'Frond', featuring a more heavier pop influence than previously heard from them. After the success of Tame Impala, which shares three members with Pond, 2010 breakthrough debut album Innerspeaker, the album 'Beard, Wives, Denim' was recorded and later released to critical acclaim in 2012. Pond are currently touring the United States, appearing at festivals such as South by Southwest, with another album titled 'Man, It Feels Like Space Again' set for release in the future.

Youth by Simian Ghost.

It could reasonably be argued that the Scandinavians are better than anyone right now at pure pop, and indeed have excelled at same ever since exponents of the form from Annie to The Cardigans made sweet melodies and infectious rhythms a national – or rather, transnational – speciality.

Simian Ghost are quintessential Scandi-poppers, with their bright and breezy summer music for a chart that no longer appears to be open to such things, their highly polished surfaces, sugar-coated choruses and breathy vocals that sound not so much androgynous as exquisitely sexless. Simian Ghost – like Phoenix and Tahiti 80, those groups from that other nation that specialises in this sort of immaculately shiny never-never pop.
