In The Morning Light By Geva Alon.

The assured sound of Israeli vocalist/guitarist Geva Alon reflects his established success in local territory (he’s also performed in the US with the likes of Paul Weller). Alon may not be well-known over here but his fourth album, In The Morning Light, should prove a breezy gateway for classic rock fans.

As with his earlier work, he takes his cues from vintage Americana, with producer Thom Monahan (who has also worked with Devendra Banhart and Vetiver) easing out the psych-folky strains in melodies including The Great Enlightenment and the hazy romance of Carolina, The Jordan River and Valour Girl (‘from her smile poured many colours’).
It’s a confidently crafted retro trip. Unsurprisingly, closing number Rock All Night isn’t a party-hard anthem but Alon’s end-note gently lingers.

Sweet Lights by Sweet Lights,

At the moment when you think of Philadelphian music, you’ll think of two artists: Kurt Vile, and The War On Drugs. Both are behind some of the best music of the past year or two, and you’ll probably know that Vile spent some time as a guitarist alongside Adam Granduciel in The War On Drugs. What you might not know, though, is that Granduciel played alongside a man named Shai Halperin in another Philly band called The Capitol Years, and Halperin also played as part of an early version of The War On Drugs with both Granduciel and Vile. Halperin now has a project under the name of Sweet Lights, and just released an album of the same name.

Now, you might be expecting something similar to Granduciel’s motorik Springsteen or Vile’s virtuoso guitar playing, but Halperin throws something of a curveball by giving us an album of sweet and melodic (soft) pop music heavily influenced by a love of the Beatles – George Harrison in particular – and the wide-eyed innocence of Daniel Johnson, topped off with Halperin’s gently sighing vocals and ear for a killer tune. Sweet Lights is a truly lovely record.

On An On By Syd Arthur.

The debut album from the new psychedelic sounds of Syd Arthur, 'On An On.'

'Tuned-in to the arcane wizardry of the Softs and Caravan, yet in step with like-minded contemporaries such as Wolf People and Tame Impala, Syd Arthur are Canterbury's dazzling new sons...' **** MOJO

'Audacious debut reboots progressive rock for the 21st Century' **** - Q Magazine

'It will take something exceptional to beat 'On An On' for prog album of the year - Classic Rock Magazine

'Bucolic reveries woven in 5/8 time on mandolin and guitar, flopping back and forth between key signatures and moods like beautiful psychedelic-rainbow fish dragged up on the riverbank of time' - Word Magazine

'Syd Arthur are indeed Canterbury based and have certainly adopted the same penchant for musical complexity...' 7/10 - Uncut Magazine

'Intriguing album of folk-tinged prog. Blending taut mandolin lines with fuzztone-propelled jazz guitar, Syd Arthur create an unexpectedly groovy blend...' **** - Guitarist

'Syd Arthur are sons and heirs of those Canterbury musicians who did sometimes whimsical, sometimes intense things with psychedelic and progressive rock' - The Guardian

'A delightfully assorted collection of songs that seamlessly mixed bucolic, hippie-like reveries, devastating bursts of precision controlled rifferama... and a musical vocabulary that's as fluently conversant with world music as it is the time-signature twists of Soft Machine. That these influences are successfully integrated into their songs rather than merely grafted on as stylistic affections says a lot about the band's desire to hone their craft' - Classic Rock Presents Prog Magazine

Celestial Electric By AM & Shawn Lee.

Cult LA singer-songwriter AM and cult London beatmaster Shawn Lee share a taste for the outré, so it seemed only natural that they should collaborate on Celestial Electric.

Sweetened with things like glockenspiel and marimba, along with a warehouseful of obscure analogue keyboards, Lee's rhythm tracks provide subtly scuttling beds for AM's songs and sweet soul falsetto: the desolate edge it lends to "Lonely Life" is the making of the song.

Together, these outsider talents create an engaging blend of slinky Tropicalia, soulful Bacharachia, and enigmatic Euro-thriller themes. Its snaky shuffle and lowering synth pad make "Dark into Light" a standout track, and "Somebody Like You" has genuine pop charm, while their lovely version of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils' "Jackie Blue" is a guilty pleasure deluxe.

Barr Brothers By The Barr Brothers.

The Barr Brothers is a name you’ll want to remember, something that won’t be too difficult after listening to their self-titled debut album. Brad and Andrew Barr have been playing music together since they were kids, but it wasn’t until Brad’s chance meeting with Sarah Page that The Barr Brothers began to materialize. Page was playing harp in her apartment wall, and Barr was secretly learning the melody. He knocked on her door and ended up playing it for her. Soon, their friend and multi-instrumentalist Andres Vial was brought in to lend his wide array of expertise to the outfit, playing keyboards, bass, vibes, percussion, and singing. Their tremendous talents shine through in this album and capture an Americana folk that keeps up with today’s demands for a fresh sound.
The album was cut in a boiler room in Montreal and includes guest musicians Andres Vial, Miles Perkin (Lhasa DeSela), Elizabeth Powell (Land of Talk), Nathan Moore, Jocie Adams (The Low Anthem) and Emma Baxter.

The Tarnished Gold by Beachwood Sparks.

The LA quartet Beachwood Sparks are a band out of time, in two senses. First, their third album comes the best part of 11 years since their last. Second, their music is so tied to the southern California of the late 60s and early 70s that it's hard not to imagine the songs as outtakes from the Easy Rider soundtrack. Curiously, though, that makes them feel more current than they did first time around: Beachwood Sparks are bathed in same the hazy, tinted nostalgia that powers Tumblr and Instagram. It helps, too, that Tarnished Gold is of a piece with their first two albums, but never a pale imitation. Earl Jean combines country rhythms with soft jangle of electric guitars, like the Byrds in their Clarence White era; Talk About Lonesome sounds like a ballad Neil Young wrote for Johnny Cash in 1972, then forgot about. The mariachi diversion No Queremos Oro is a little puzzling, but the rest's a summery shimmer of pleasure.

Forever So By Husky.

Surprisingly, Australian rockers Husky draw their name from their frontman: Husky Gawenda, who started playing music with cousin and keyboardist Gideon Preiss when they were kids in Melbourne, Australia. They went their separate ways musically as they were growing up, but reconvened in 2008 along with bassist Evan Tweedie and drummer Luke Collins and started playing small shows around the city.

Fast forward a few years and they’re opening sold-out shows for The Head and the Heart in anticipation of the release of their debut album, Forever So, which will be out on July 10 via Sub Pop.

Husky recorded Forever So before Sup Pop had ever heard of them, on borrowed equipment in a bungalow behind a house Gawenda was renting. They ran extension cords through a garden into the main house. The record was also made without any help from a producer or any other outside influences.

“We wanted to have complete creative control over everything on the record,” says Preiss. "We weren’t trying to achieve an engineering masterpiece, but the heart and soul of the songs are in there.”

The result is a remarkable collection of affecting, mostly acoustic folk rock highlighted by Gawenda’s delicate vocals.

Kill For Love By Chromatics.

Kill For Love is the fourth studio album from the Chromatics. The album features the tracks "Kill for Love", "Candy" and "Into the Black".

Chromatics is an American electronic music band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2001. The band consists of Ruth Radelet (vocals), Adam Miller (guitar), Nat Walker (drums), and Johnny Jewel (producer, multi-instrumentalist). The band's latest album, Kill for Love, was released March 26, 2012.
The band originally featured a trademark sound indebted to punk and lo-fi that was described as "noisy" and "chaotic". After numerous lineup changes, which left guitarist Adam Miller as the sole original member, the band signed to the Italians Do It Better record label.

Chromatics gained recognition for their song "Tick of the Clock" which was featured in the heralded Drive film and soundtrack, a feature film released September 2011 by director Nicolas Winding Refn. In December 2011, Johnny Jewel and Nat Walker released Symmetry, what was described as their "most ambitious project to date: a sprawling, 37-track, two-hour collection of cinematic noir-electro" featuring contributions from Chromatics and other Italians Do It Better acts Glass Candy, Desire and Mirage.

On October 23, 2011 Chromatics released the title track from their upcoming album, Kill for Love. Reviews described the new single as a "really hypnotizing, fascinating song that will definitely get you psyched for the record - Ruth Radalet warmly croons her sweet, cryptic confessional lyrics while her band effortlessly weaves a bubbling, dreamy, New Order-esque soundscape."

Bloom By Beach House.

In one way or another Beach House records have always been about the essence of things. Their self-titled first record was characterised by simplicity: ticking drum machines, keys and electric guitar acted as lone backdrops for deceptively simple pop songs.

Tracks from that record, like Apple Orchard and Tokyo Witch, burned off any possible excesses and let melodies sit just so. On first blush Bloom is striking with its expanse and depth; but even in this more detailed surrounding Beach House are still after the same ideas of economy.

Opener Myth pirouettes on elementary percussion and a sparkling guitar line. A head of steam gathers slowly, becoming more textured and wild by increments. So that when Victoria Legrand finishes up the first chorus, singing "Let you know I'm not the only one," the rug is pulled out and the emptiness is all the more startling.

Even though parts of this song – and others on Bloom – can feel quite free-range, there's a solid construction to the way Beach House unravel such pieces. They tug in just the right directions, which can make for quite a deceptive listen. It's easy to be carried along by Bloom's easy sense of beauty, and much harder to trap exactly what it is that makes the record so charming.

The answer lies in small moments and tectonic rubs: the overlapping vocal at the end of Lazuli; Lagrand sliding The Hours into ecstasy late on; or the weightless guitar interlude in New Year. In truth, there are too many such moments to list, and it's probably more fun to discover them yourself. Those small workings of Bloom might not stick out at first but gently push songs towards blissful resolutions that somehow don't feel manipulative or at all corny.

It might sound strange but after spending time with the record what Bloom most calls to mind is macro photography. An extreme close-up shot often reveals hidden depths and textures of familiar subjects. So too with Beach House on this record; guitar lines are blown up, Legrand's vocals are heady and intense, while melodies reveal like time-lapse videos.

Once you manage to pull away from Bloom's magnified scenery and consider the record as a whole it's difficult to think of it as anything other than its makers’ best work so far.

He is also the former drummer for the Philadelphia-based band Saxon Shore (2001 to 2004) and the Seattle-based band Fleet Foxes (2008 to 2012). He departed the Fleet Foxes to focus on his solo album under the moniker Father John Misty. Tillman has maintained a steady output of solo recordings since 2004 and has toured the US and Europe extensively with Pacific Northwest artists such as Damien Jurado, Jesse Sykes, and David Bazan.

Western Vinyl writes about Joshua's career: "J. Tillman moved to Seattle in 2004 after dropping out [of] college where he was studying god-knows-what. Upon moving there he found a job working at a bakery, where he was allowed to record at night before his 4:30AM shift began. This led to a cassette that maybe 20 people heard, one of whom was Seattle legend Damien Jurado. Damien brought Tillman on tour about a year later, where every night he wowed audiences into exclaiming things like, 'Who is this weird mumbly kid' and/or 'Get off the stage.' Tillman would continue to tour through the US and Europe regardless of 'audiences', 'interest' and 'total lack of promotion or booking agencies'

Aufheben By The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Aufheben or Aufhebung is a German word with several seemingly contradictory meanings, including "to lift up", "to abolish", or "to sublate".The term has also been defined as "abolish," "preserve," and "transcend." In philosophy, aufheben is used by Hegel to explain what happens when a thesis and antithesis interact. A brand new album by the Brian Jonestown Massacre , recorded in Berlin in Anton Newcombe s studio & the infamous East German Radio Station Studio East Featuring Matt Hollywood an original member of the band. It also features Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3 , Spritualized) , Constatine Karlis (Dimmer), & Thibault Pesenti (Rockcandys) . Plus vocal performances by Eliza Karmasalo (in Finnish) This album brings the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound mixed with eastern influences & bringing it up to date with the benefit of all the additional weirdness that's been discovered in the past 40 years.

Locked Down By Dr. John

Born in 1940, Dr. John is like no other musician. He came to prominence in the late 1960s when his combination of jazz, blues, soul and psychedelic voodoo hit a chord with a crazed America. On albums like Gris-Gris and Gumbo, his ‘Dr. John the Night Tripper’ persona was backed up with winning tracks, and at least two of his songs, Right Place Wrong Time and I Walk on Gilded Splinters, are acknowledged classics (the later having fallen victim to both Humble Pie and Paul Weller). After struggles with heroin, the former Mac Rebennack has enjoyed several career revivals and has also appeared on a lot of other people’s records – he is possibly the only musician ever to have played on records by both Hugh Laurie and Spiritualized.

Now, at a time when most acts are looking wistfully at either nostalgia tours or bed, Dr. John finds himself the subject of a cool reboot, that stalwart tactic of the heritage music industry. This time, his collaborator is not one of the usual tribute crew – Elvis Costello, Dave Stewart or one of several familiar middle-aged hipsters – but the relatively young and happening Dan Auerbach from the modernist blues band The Black Keys. Best of all, Auerbach is interested neither in providing pastiches of Dr. John’s old sound nor weighing it down with misguided over-contemporary tricks; Locked Down is an unusual album, clearly based in the 21st century with its jagged guitars, staccato beats and stark production, but it’s also true to the spirit of the artist on its cover, being mean, lean and funky.

At times the Doctor sounds like Captain Beefheart or Tom Waits, two acts he’s clearly influenced, while at others he’s a spectacularly scathing vocalist on songs like Revolution and Ice Age. The anger that fuelled his Hurricane Katrina EP, Sippiana Hericane, is still present, as is the sense of menace behind his best recordings. Always there’s the experience of almost 50 years as a recording artist in this music. The voice is still there, as is the attitude, and Auerbach has done an excellent job bringing an artist who will never be out of date into the 21st century.

Below we have Dr. John's  Locked Down and My children, My angels.

Aureola by Hush Arbors / Arbouretum

Hush Arbors music suggests some strange place where John Philips, Merle Haggard, Charalambides and Federico Garcia Lorca all occupy the same neighborhood tavern. His songs are fluid and lucid and frequently dazzling, displaying a mastery of craft only gleaned from countless pie-eyed hours strumming along to records late at night and absorbing their individual magic. Hush Arbors is Keith Woods near-perfect distillation of all that magic.

Dave Heumann's allegorical and metaphorical lyrics for Arbouretum ride gently atop his fuzzed-out guitar solos, pushing them ever higher into the stratosphere, and lending his songs an emotional weight uncommon in "heavy rock" music. The band also continues to push forward, experimenting with improvisation to capture a more immediate feel that reflects their ever-changing live performances. Arbouretum perfectly exemplify a band that exists in a dual state. They are both loose and rhythmic, channeling the Velvet Underground's repetitive grooves, but also technically precise and expansive. Folk ballads and acid-guitar psychedelia in perfect harmony. It's music that can be played on an acoustic guitar or pushed through a distortion pedal and a stack of amps. The new tracks on Aureola serve as both the next step in Arbouretum's evolution and a glimpse of what's to come on their next full-length due out in the Fall of 2012.

We couldn't find much in the way of material from this album other than this live reworking of  the Hush Arbors Track,  Sleeper. its well worth a look.

And here's a taste of Arbouretum with White bird from their album The Gathering.

Electric Cables By Lightships

Electric Cables is an album of tender, observational songs, played with an invigorating and easy sense of purpose; the sound of friends enjoying one another's company and allowing ideas and experiments to flourish. A complex and rewarding record that you'll want to keep coming back to.

Lightships is the new musical outpost from Gerard Love. The Lightships band is Dave McGowan (guitar - Teenage Fanclub), Brendan O'Hare (drums - from the first incarnation of Teenage Fanclub), Tom Crossley (flute - International Airport and The Pastels) and Bob Kildea (bass - Belle & Sebastian).

Faithful Man By Lee Fields.

Since the late sixties Lee Fields has amassed a prolific catalog and has played and toured with such legends as Kool and the Gang, Sammy Gordon and the Hip-Huggers, O.V Wright, and many more. With a career spanning 43 years, it s mind-blowing that the music he s making today with Brooklyn s Truth & Soul Records is the best of his career. While drawing comparisons to The Moments, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, and of course James Brown, Faithful Man is able to create a space of it s own due to the group s desire to interpret and further the formulas of good soul music rather then imitate them. Chalk that up to Truth & Soul producers and co-owners Jeff Silverman and Leon Michels. The older Fields becomes, the closer he gets to perfecting the sound of soul said DJ Oliver Wang about Fields in an NPR feature. Faithful Man is the next step towards perfection. A step that will find Lee Fields & The Expressions finally being bestowed the contemporary soul music crown.

Listen Up, Enjoy !!!
